Sedona Toys for Tots Grateful for Support

See all wishes from Sedona Toys for Tots

Description

Sedona Toys for Tots would like to thank everyone who has donated toys, bicycles and funds to help make this year’s Christmas brighter for local families and children. We collected more than 3,000 toys, stocking stuffers and books from local collection boxes and had enough funds donated to purchase another 2,000 items. This meant that we were able to donate bags of toys to 437 children in West Sedona, 140 children in Beaver Creek and 70 in Oak Creek School. With enough toys to reach out to local preschools, Old Town Mission, Verde Valley Sanctuary and even send toys to the Hopi Reservation. We also had more bicycles donated this year than ever. We distributed a total of 62 bicycles to West Sedona, Beaver Creek, Oak Creek and even 5 to the Hopi Reservation.

We would like to thank the many community organizations and businesses that helped us fulfill our mission. These include Sedona Marine Corps League, Sedona Fire District, Sedona Police Department, Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition, Rotary Club of Sedona Red Rocks, Sedona Community Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul, West Sedona School, Seven Canyons Resort, Sedona Red Rock News, KVRD and others. We’d also like to thank Sedona Ace Hardware and Builders First Source for donations of bags and batteries. Your participation show that the community cares, delivering a message of hope to less fortunate families in our community.

A True Christmas Gift

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

nopic

Description

Give a gift that keeps on giving for a lifetime. Bwindi Community Program has a secondary student, interrupted during his first year by the Covid-19 school closure, who needs a sponsor. He will go back to finish that term in January of 2021. The relationship developed during sponsoring is amazing. Secondary school is a huge step for a rural student. Watch his maturity develop while getting to know this student, his culture and his dreams. Go to BwindiCommunityProgram.org and look at Byamukama Derick on the Children's Page. The rest of the students have recently been sponsored. Call Jan Tanis to discuss the possibilities; a team to support him, etc. The Christmas spirit lives in these children!

Drawing/Map/Drafting of Historic Cemetery

See all wishes from Sedona Heritage Museum

The Sedona Historical Society owns the 2 oldest cemeteries in the Sedona area. Both need to have to-scale drawings created of existing burial sites and pathways so that future burials can happen in an organized manner. We need a couple volunteers to measure and someone to sketch what is there. We may have someone who can then put that into an electronic drawing. If not, we need someone to draw up the plot plan at scale. To learn more call Janeen or Kathie.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who have supported Bwindi Community Program over the years. This is a crazy year, but one in which we have much to be thankful for. The graduation candidates are back in school in Uganda. This test of in-person learning with all the WHO precautions is proving to be safe. It is a group of 103 at Bishop Comboni secondary school vs full enrollment of 650. The students will be able to graduate; a few months late, but it is safe, so far. We expect the full student body to be back in school in 2021 if current conditions hold. Hooray!!! Anyone with basic ATV utility vehicles willing to donate one they no longer need

See all wishes from Verde Valley Humane Society

Do you work for a company that utilizes utility carts for maintenance? Perhaps a farm, ranch, stables, winery, golf course, sanctuary, tour operator, or warehouse - anyone who utilizes basic ATV Utility vehicles?

We are in great need of a vehicle to help us move supplies from one building to another. Our staff cannot continue lugging huge bags of food and litter from one building to another, especially in this heat. We're looking for a company or individual open to partnering with us by donating a used utility vehicle. Got an idea? Message us. Know someone getting rid of one? Ask them if they'd consider donating? Are you a business interested in a community support partnership? Let us know. We'd be humbled and grateful, and of course a tax receipt would be provided.

Bwindi Community Program is cautiously cheering the schools re-opening in Uganda. The students who expected to graduate in December of 2020 are heading back to their classrooms. If this goes well, more students will also return to school. It is a safety-minded, phased, re-opening and BCP hopes it goes well. The need for donations to the Children's Aid Fund just became more acute. If a sponsor is no longer able to help, this is the fund that will keep a student in school until new support is found. Any amount will be appreciated and the smile from Uganda will be bright! Call Jan Tanis at 204-1135 for help or donate online at BwindiCommunityProgram.org. Other Donations page.

Volunteers Needed

nopic

Description

The Coalition Against Human Trafficking-NAZ warns parents that children are at higher risk of being sex trafficked during Covid-19 due to more time spent on Social Media. One of our outreach programs, JUST.MEN.ARIZONA, founded by Nick Lembo of Shared Hope, meets one evening a month, in Sedona, with law officials to help stop Sex Trafficking. JUST.MEN.ARIZONA secretly communicates with 'buyers' who respond to fake ads for sex with a child. We discourage them from this action. We need more men to volunteer. Inching back to "Normal"

Description

The June 2nd date for re-opening schools in Uganda has come and gone, with a delay imposed of 30 days. Many schools have day students and teachers that commute to the classroom each day. The government is taking this additional time to make sure it can take temperatures and test those who will be leaving the campus and returning each day. Students who are at home working to keep up their studies, will face additional costs to do research online, etc. The Children's Aid Fund is Bwindi Community Program's source of help for these students. You can help immensely, with a donation of any size on the website or by check. Go to: bwindicommunityprogram.org or call Jan Tanis at 928-204-1135. For any student experiencing critical shortages, the Children's Aid Fund will be there to help them get back to school. You can help! Bottles and Formula Needed for Tiny Orphaned Kittens

See all wishes from Verde Valley Humane Society

Description

A kitten's best chance for survival is with mom, not in a shelter. We do not have the resources to care for kittens without a mother, who may need to be bottle-fed and haven't built up their immunity.

But we also don't want to turn away people who find a kitten and want to help. So we're putting together some supplies and instructions to help those people care for the kittens at home until they are big enough to eat on their own, get spayed/neutered and if necessary, come back to us for adoption.

The problem - we're quickly running out of kitten bottles and milk replacement. If you can help, we are in need of KMR or PetLac brand liquid milk replacement (small packs preferred), and bottles designed specifically for kittens (PetAg is one brand - there may be others). They may be hard to find locally, but PetSense or Tractor Supply in Cottonwood or PetSmart in Sedona may have them. You can also shop online at Chewy, Amazon, or even Amazon.

Donations can be dropped of at VVHS during regular business hours or shipped to Verde Valley Humane Society at 1520 W. Mingus, Cottonwood, AZ 86326. Thank you!

A simple request for peanut butter

See all wishes from Verde Valley Humane Society

Description

Peanut butter. It's a small thing that means a lot to a bored dog waiting to be adopted. "Kong time" when our staff and volunteers distribute Kongs stuffed with peanut butter is the best time of day for our dogs. They get a snack, a chew toy, playtime and quiet time all rolled into one and they so look forward to it. Sadly, We've run out of peanut butter, though, and a Kong just isn't the same without it (we tried!). If you can help, we need smooth peanut butter - any brand, but NOT chunky and NOT sugar free. We are open if you would like to drop some off (keep social distancing in mind and wear a mask if possible), or order online (we'll post a suggested link in the comments) and have it sent to VVHS, 1520 W. Our virtual fundraiser was a success - thank you!

See all wishes from Plan B for Wolves

Description

Thank you to @SedonaWishList from @savewolvesplanb for a wish fulfilled!

We hosted our first ever virtual fundraiser by showing the film @BeingwithAnimals by filmmaker @Salome Pitschen featuring Sedona’s very own animal communicator @maiakincaid and in collaboration with @DeborahRossum. The live Q&A after the film was fun and very educational.

We would highly recommend all nonprofits look at doing a virtual event to help stay top of mind in the community and with their donors while raising funds.

Here are some of the comments we received post event:

“I simply loved this film and will watch it again today because there is so much to absorb and learn.”

“Thank you for hosting this evening during the COVID crisis when it is so important to be reminded that we are literally not alone – we have the companionship of our beloved animals, and we can communicate with them on so many levels. It is easy to forget when we are wrapped up in the external concerns of the COVID disease. But for the first time in many days, I felt a huge sense of relief and comfort in falling asleep with my pups right next to me. Thank you for that gift.”

“Thank you for your fantastic efforts in getting this film out to folks all over and for the work you do with Plan B to Save Wolves.”

“Thanks to all of you for making and presenting this important, striking and enjoyable film!”

Ten Reasons to Volunteer with Verde Valley Caregivers

See all wishes from Verde Valley Caregivers

Description

Discussions with current volunteers have revealed ten reasons why folks should volunteer to help their elderly or disabled neighbors as part of the Verde Valley Caregivers.
Reason #1: Make a Difference in Your Community
VVCC is a network of people helping neighbors. As our population ages, every year there is an increasing need for assistance to elderly who want to stay in their own homes. At some point in time, most can no longer drive themselves. Without a convenient transit system, getting to medical appointments and running basic errands, such as grocery shopping, can be impossible.
VVCC fills this gap by providing over 2,200 older adults and adults with disabilities with transportation, shopping assistance, friendly visits, handyperson help and other services to help them stay in their own homes. Volunteer, John Wozniak, shares the importance of this goal to him. “Anything to help people stay in their own homes. It breaks my heart to see people sitting around in care centers.” He says, “neighbors are very gracious and very grateful.” He finds the work “very fulfilling”.

Solar Project

See all wishes from Verde Valley Sanctuary

Description

Verde Valley Sanctuary wishes for community generosity to fund installation of solar panels at our shelter and thrift store locations. The benefits of solar are multifold, lowering our carbon footprint and utility bills. Environmental and financial sustainability open new opportunities in receiving grants. Our utilities average $1,260 per month for these locations. The solar project will cost us $130,025, will pay for itself in 8-9 years and have a 25-year lifespan. If you can help contact Shawn, Development Director, to donate specifically to this project, 928-282-2755. Thanks for your help!

Kids' Books

See all wishes from Manzanita Outreach

Description

Manzanita Outreach is focused on ensuring all of our Verde Valley neighbors have enough food to eat. Approximately 1,500 families (households) per month visit our Food Sharing events. At our Food Sharing events, we also share over 300 new and gently used children’s books per month with Verde Valley kids, because having books in the home is one approach in improving reading ability and overall success in school.

If you would like to donate gently-used children's books (ages 0-18), call (623) 582-1360 to schedule a time for us to pick them up.

With gratitude,

WISH FULFILLED!

See all wishes from Verde Valley Sanctuary

nopic

Description

Sending gratitude to our donor, VOC resident Janice Mock-Jones, who donated her passenger van to Verde Valley Sanctuary in response to our request. Her generosity has enabled our mission to better serve the families of the shelter who are recovering from the trauma of domestic violence. We are already planning field trips that will be much-needed therapy and stress relief, while simultaneously building strong family connections. Thank you, Janice and family, for your support to our community!

Ten Years Old and still Growing!

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

nopic

Description

After ten years of work, we know little is ever completely done. Bwindi Community Program is dedicated to educating the children in SW Uganda. That often means vocational training or university after secondary school. It is a long relationship with students, sponsors and donors to projects. A donation to Bwindi Community Program helps us react to any challenge. We are all volunteers. 100% of the donations benefit the children. Visit BwindiCommunityProgram.org to see photos of some of the work on the Stories and Photos page; to see the smiling faces who are so appreciative of your support and the ways to help!

Piano Accompaniment

See all wishes from Running River School

Description

Running River School is looking for piano accompaniment for our Eurythmy block on February 10-13 and 18-21 (exact times of day still to be determined). We would be happy to have one accompanist if they have the availability for all of the days/hours we need; we are also open to a few people who only have a few hours to contribute.

Perfect opportunity for someone who wants to spend a bit of time with children while contributing to an arts-based movement classroom activity. Sheet music will be provided.

Please contact Eddie Simmons at 928-362-2659 or Lupita Pollock at 928-301-3232 (please leave a message if no answer).

Eurythmy is an expressive movement art originated by Rudolf Steiner in conjunction with Marie von Sivers in the early 20th century. Primarily a performance art, it is also used in education, especially in Waldorf schools for therapeutic purposes. The word Eurythmy stems from Greek roots meaning beautiful or harmonious rhythm.
