Volunteer servers needed

Description

The Sedona Community Center is in need of volunteer servers for our congregate lunch. This is a daily service and you get to eat lunch (for free) with us on the day you volunteer! Time requirement is from 11:15 am to around 1:00 pm at least one day a week, more if interested. You do need a food handlers card for this, but it's a very easy process, takes about an hour of time for the online course, and the certificate lasts for 2 to 3 years. If this speaks to your soul, please contact Kristen at the Community Center 928-282-2834.

July 4th Veterans Raffle

See all wishes from Rotary Club of Sedona Village

Description

The Rotary Club of Sedona Village wishes that everyone will participate in the Cornelius Veterans Hospital Benefit Raffle July 4 weekend. For 17 years the benefit raffle, organized by veteran John Cornelius, has contributed to the comfort and quality of life for veterans in long term care at the VA Hospital in Prescott.

This program funds a "store" where veterans can "shop" for a variety of clothing, toiletry items, phone cards, colorful blankets and other items at no cost to the vets. On their birthdays veterans receive birthday cards and flowers. There are movie nights, complete with popcorn.

Feeling lucky? This year, instead of one prize for the year, there are several chances to win a prize on the last day of the weekend. The Memorial Day drawing had 12 winners with prizes from first-class ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad to local restaurants/gift shops. Learn more and buy tickets online at https://sedonavillagerotary.org/page/veterans-project. Saturday, July 3 through Monday, July 5 tickets will be sold in person in front of Clark's Market in the Village. For those feeling more grateful than lucky, donations are also welcome.

Uganda School Update

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

nopic

Description

Uganda schools are again closed. This time for 42 days. It is truly unfortunate, since all the BCP-sponsored students board at school and are safer there. Covid is taking its toll on student morale. Now is a wonderful time to sponsor one of the students on the website. They need a boost. Schools are set to re-open on July 19th and to learn of a new sponsor would be the gift of a lifetime. Their futures are in the balance. Contact Jan Tanis for information or check out "The Children" at BwindiCommunityProgram.org.

Create a Map of Sedona Movie Locations

See all wishes from Sedona Heritage Museum

Description

A FUN opportunity for someone who enjoys puzzles, photography and old Sedona movies. We continue to get requests for a map identifying movie locations from the old films made in Sedona. We have lots of photos from the movies that show recognizable places. These could be visited and viewing points noted on a map. Even 10-12 locations would be good and if up to 20 - all the better! There are a couple people who can be interviewed to help identify some spots. This might include watching a few of the oldies to see what locations were used and then be able to say what movie(s) were filmed from that vantage point. Sound like fun....and a challenge? Call Janeen to discuss. 282-7038.

We make every effort to help our clients provide for their dogs and cats if we possibly can. Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support! Sedona's Homeless Families Need Your Help

See all wishes from Hope House of Sedona

nopic

Description

Did you know there are homeless children living in Sedona? Hope House of Sedona is a 501(C)3 working to provide transitional housing for Sedona's homeless children and their families. Our goal is to have Hope House open by the end of 2021. After receiving a HUD grant through the City of Sedona, along with a two-year fundraising effort, we now have the funds to begin construction but we do not have sufficient funds to open the house. Before we can open the doors for residents, we're asking for financial donations for furnishings, appliances, landscaping, security system, and operating funds.

Because Hope House is not yet open, some families are currently spending the cold nights outdoors. As we have previous winters, we have been able to put some of these families up in hotel rooms on the worst nights. When we hear about families that need this care, we are always scrambling to find money and housing. To better address this situation as it arises, we have decided to start the Hope House Emergency Shelter Fund. We are asking businesses, community groups, individuals and other organizations to please consider contributing to this fund.

Please support us in providing safety, security, and a better future for Sedona's most vulnerable children. You can assist in this journey by sending a check to Hope House of Sedona, 54 Bowstring Drive, Sedona 86335 or donate online at www.hopehouseofsedona.org. Please specify if you would like to designate funds to the Emergency Shelter Fund, otherwise the funds will be used for the other purposes listed above. If you have any questions, please email us at hopehouseofsedona@gmail.com or call 928-852-0001. Thank you!

Music is part of the therapy we offer to help bring people back to life after suffering through domestic violence. One of our neighbors donated a sound healing room for our residents. Music is a therapy that moves people into their heart. It has certainly blessed our sanctuary.

Now our sanctuary needs your help to bring us a machine we can all use to sing the blues away! Thanks for your help!

Sedona Toys for Tots Grateful for Support

See all wishes from Sedona Toys for Tots

Description

Sedona Toys for Tots would like to thank everyone who has donated toys, bicycles and funds to help make this year’s Christmas brighter for local families and children. We collected more than 3,000 toys, stocking stuffers and books from local collection boxes and had enough funds donated to purchase another 2,000 items. This meant that we were able to donate bags of toys to 437 children in West Sedona, 140 children in Beaver Creek and 70 in Oak Creek School. With enough toys to reach out to local preschools, Old Town Mission, Verde Valley Sanctuary and even send toys to the Hopi Reservation. We also had more bicycles donated this year than ever. We distributed a total of 62 bicycles to West Sedona, Beaver Creek, Oak Creek and even 5 to the Hopi Reservation.

We would like to thank the many community organizations and businesses that helped us fulfill our mission. These include Sedona Marine Corps League, Sedona Fire District, Sedona Police Department, Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition, Rotary Club of Sedona Red Rocks, Sedona Community Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul, West Sedona School, Seven Canyons Resort, Sedona Red Rock News, KVRD and others. We’d also like to thank Sedona Ace Hardware and Builders First Source for donations of bags and batteries. Happy Thanksgiving to all who have supported Bwindi Community Program over the years. This is a crazy year, but one in which we have much to be thankful for. The graduation candidates are back in school in Uganda. This test of in-person learning with all the WHO precautions is proving to be safe. It is a group of 103 at Bishop Comboni secondary school vs full enrollment of 650. The students will be able to graduate; a few months late, but it is safe, so far. We expect the full student body to be back in school in 2021 if current conditions hold. Hooray!!! Still, the need continues. Every gift will make a difference. Please mail tax-deductible contributions to: Salvation Army Sedona, PO Box 1136, Sedona, AZ 86339.

Anyone with basic ATV utility vehicles willing to donate one they no longer need

See all wishes from Verde Valley Humane Society

Do you work for a company that utilizes utility carts for maintenance? Perhaps a farm, ranch, stables, winery, golf course, sanctuary, tour operator, or warehouse - anyone who utilizes basic ATV Utility vehicles?

We are in great need of a vehicle to help us move supplies from one building to another. Our staff cannot continue lugging huge bags of food and litter from one building to another, especially in this heat. We're looking for a company or individual open to partnering with us by donating a used utility vehicle. Got an idea? Message us. Know someone getting rid of one? Ask them if they'd consider donating? Are you a business interested in a community support partnership? Let us know. We'd be humbled and grateful, and of course a tax receipt would be provided.

Food and Hygiene Supplies Needed to support Hopi people in the traditional Village of Shungopavi

See all wishes from Crossing Worlds Hopi Projects

Description

A concerned group from the Hopi village of Shungopavi see the coronavirus is spreading fast and are concerned about the safety of people in their village. There are 61 active cases in Shungopavi (as of 7-1-20).

"We are reaching out for supplies that will sustain life and the health of our people. We want to have all the necessities they need on hand so we can secure the village and do our best to kill the virus in our village.   This will allow people to stay in place and not leave the village so we can have a total lock down for as long as needed." (Shungopavi Cultural Arts spokesman)

Crossing Worlds Hopi Projects, a Sedona-based non-profit, welcomes:
• Tax-deductible monetary donations to purchase supplies dedicated to Shungopavi Emergency Support can be made at https://www.crossingworlds.org/make-a-donation
• Donations of dry goods food and hygiene supplies can be dropped off at: Sedona Artist Market between 10 am and 4 pm daily (2081 W. 89A, next to Harkins Theatre).

Description

The June 2nd date for re-opening schools in Uganda has come and gone, with a delay imposed of 30 days. Many schools have day students and teachers that commute to the classroom each day. The government is taking this additional time to make sure it can take temperatures and test those who will be leaving the campus and returning each day. Students who are at home working to keep up their studies, will face additional costs to do research online, etc. The Children's Aid Fund is Bwindi Community Program's source of help for these students. Bwindi Community Program is anticipating a need for subsidies for many who wait for their academic life to resume. Students are studying online in the upper levels of education, but the needs mount. The Children's Aid Fund is our tool to help in this situation. Please donate any amount that you choose. It will be put to good use as the stories begin to arrive of needs that cannot be met. A smile from across the Atlantic will brighten your day!

Bottles and Formula Needed for Tiny Orphaned Kittens

See all wishes from Verde Valley Humane Society

Description

A kitten's best chance for survival is with mom, not in a shelter. We do not have the resources to care for kittens without a mother, who may need to be bottle-fed and haven't built up their immunity.

But we also don't want to turn away people who find a kitten and want to help. So we're putting together some supplies and instructions to help those people care for the kittens at home until they are big enough to eat on their own, get spayed/neutered and if necessary, come back to us for adoption.

The problem - we're quickly running out of kitten bottles and milk replacement. If you can help, we are in need of KMR or PetLac brand liquid milk replacement (small packs preferred), and bottles designed specifically for kittens (PetAg is one brand - there may be others). They may be hard to find locally, but PetSense or Tractor Supply in Cottonwood or PetSmart in Sedona may have them. You can also shop online at Chewy, Amazon, or even Amazon.

Donations can be dropped of at VVHS during regular business hours or shipped to Verde Valley Humane Society at 1520 W. Mingus, Cottonwood, AZ 86326. Thank you!
