Neighborhood Coordinators

Description

Verde Valley Food Project is looking for more Neighborhood Coordinators. It’s amazingly simple to be a Neighborhood Coordinator. Neighborhood Coordinators organize a small group of neighbors to be Food Donors. Each donor gets a reusable green bag to store food in. Every two months NC's pick up their donors full bags and leave an empty one for next time. On collection day, NC's pick up their donors bags and bring all the bags to a drop-off point at the Safeway/ReMax parking lot in West Sedona, where volunteers receive and sort it the food.
Being a Neighborhood Coordinator takes only an hour or two every other a month! You might need to put a little more time in at the beginning, when you’re building your neighborhood. But it’s a surprisingly small time commitment, considering how big a difference you’ll be making.
That’s it. As you meet more neighbors and other NCs, your sense of community will grow, and it will add as much to your life as you will be adding to others’ lives. It’s something to look forward to.

Wishing for Respite Volunteers

See all wishes from Verde Valley Caregivers

Description

Volunteer companions provide company and assistance to neighbors while family caregivers take a much-needed break. The volunteer companions are not expected to provide nursing care or personal hygiene assistance.
A current volunteer, Tony Isolda, learned about VVCC respite care when his wife was very ill. She got so much out of the visits that when she passed away, he decided he would like to give the gift of respite to others. In 2016 he volunteered with VVCC as a respite care giver.
When he goes to meet with a neighbor, he often brings some kind of treat. He said, “They’re lonely and want to talk.” One person he cares for, Donald, is 95. When Tony visits Donald they play games, read and have an enjoyable time. It gives Tony a good feeling about how his visits lift other’s spirits. From experience Tony says, “Those visits are better than a million bucks to a neighbor.”
To volunteer call (928) 204-1238 or email the Verde Valley Caregivers at operations@vvcaregivers.org. Tony is willing to talk to anyone who is interested in volunteering to answer questions about what it is like.

The first phase; seating for 64 with 10 computers and books on the shelves, will be enlarged to allow 157 to study here soon. When the second phase of the furnishings arrive, we need to pay the manufacturer the balance owed of $1,992. It is a tiny fraction of the investment to date. It is so close to being installed. A donation now will help with the final bill for the furniture. Please contact Jan Tanis to pay by check or go to http//:BwindiCommunityProgram.org and the "Other Donations" page will guide you through payment online. We will also add more computers over time. Enrich Your Life -- Volunteer

See all wishes from Verde Valley Caregivers

Description

Verde Valley Caregivers wishes to enrich your life. Here is an example from one of our volunteers:
Hank Culbertson joined VVCC as a volunteer driver in June 2014. After reading an article in the paper about VVCC he decided that transporting “neighbors” was his calling. Hank enjoys getting to know the neighbors and hearing their life stories. He particularly likes the long trips and frequently travels from Verde Valley communities to Flagstaff. He’s taken neighbors as far as Phoenix. The work also gives him the opportunity to do something for somebody else. Hank says, “I want to drive for Caregivers as long as I can.”
VVCC needs more volunteer drivers and volunteers to make friendly visits and respite assistance. Volunteers decide when, where and how often they wish to volunteer. Visit https://vvcaregivers.org/volunteer-opportunities or call (928) 204-1238 to enrich your life and others, too.

Ideally must be non-descript because privacy is a key requirement of our shelter. We will re-paint if necessary. Our shelter has been overcapacity this entire year—so we are desperate to take mothers and their children to: special events, the library, recreational places, and park outings. Many of these families have never had an opportunity to do these normal and pleasant things. Questions, please contact Tracey McConnell 928-282-2755.

So Close to the Goal!

Description

The E-Library on the Bishop Comboni Secondary School campus in Uganda is operating. The furnishings in the second phase of construction, which will more than double the seating capacity, have been ordered from the manufacturer. They required 70% of the funds as a deposit. Hooray to all of you who have helped get us SO close. In six weeks, the school will be asked for $1,992 to pay for the balance of the order. The students will have an entire E-Library full of tables and chairs for their study time and computer research. Please help us in the final step. Any donation to BwindiCommunityProgram.org will be appreciated or contact Jan Tanis at 204-1135 to arrange a check donation to this wonderful project. The students are already smiling. Let's make them into big grins!

Bwindi Community Program has a history with its sponsors, sometimes as long as ten years. It is a solid relationship, but sometimes life interferes. Sponsors face death, a financial crisis, many unforeseeable events. The Children's Aid Fund covers the unforeseen; from a sponsor's perspective or from the a student's. Faced with sudden illness, etc., BCP needs a Fund to rely upon to help a child, without having to search for the sponsor. For all these events, we try to build up the Children's Aid Fund. To have it ready in an emergency is priceless. Talk to Jim or Jan Tanis at 928-204-1135 to donate to this worthy Fund. Or go online to BwindiCommunityProgram.org - "Other Donations Page" to help. Upscale Thrift Store Needs Volunteers for Sales Floor in the Village of Oak Creek

Description

We are looking for Volunteers who love retail and love making a difference in animal welfare throughout our community.

Red Rose Inspiration For Animals is a local 501c3 nonprofit that supports animal welfare since 2009. The shops help the non-profit generate revenue for the various long term existing animal related programs, future rehabilitation center as well as potential veterinary spay and neuter clinic.

In 2014 the vision for the Red Rose Thriftique a unique thrift store and artist boutique originated from the art shows we organize exclusively in West Sedona. Wanting to provide an upscale, unique, quality, inexpensive, one of a kind shopping experience for visitors as well as locals offering guilt free shopping for a cause. In 2018 the Thriftique was voted “Best Boutique” by the Reader’s Choice Awards.

Just recently in 2019 the expansion to the Red Rose Barkin Basement opened offering the organization additional space for furniture, wall art, home décor, and more. Both thrift stores are located in the Bell Rock Plaza in Village of Oak Creek.

Red Rose helps pet owners spay and neuter animal companions for free, provides emergency medical services for homeless felines and canines and often assists pet owners on a fixed income to get their animal the veterinary care they desperately need. The focus is reducing the over pet population; preventing felines and canines from potentially being injured, abused or neglected.

Flexible days and hours . Please inquire within the store.

Thank you for considering Red Rose

The community and the 618 students who board will be grateful. We have a TNR (Trap Neuter and Release Program) for ferals that we provide medical care when needed, alter and vaccinate.

We are in the process of opening a new location for our thrift store in addition to our other location. This Red Rose Barkin Basement will have furniture, linens, wall art and much more.

Some Books are being Purchased

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

Description

Thank you to all who have helped with the books needed for the new e-Library at the rural secondary school in SW Uganda. Our hopes to have some of the shelves filled for the opening of the e-Library when the students return to campus have been met. From a variety of sources (local, online, and our wider network of supporters), we have secured over $5,600 to wire to Uganda for the purchase of textbooks and research books. The students, who return to begin the 2019 school year on February 4th, will have books to hold and read. Such a luxury for the struggling rural student! Your holiday gifts to the school children will bring smiles for years. To help secure more of the needed inventory, please call Jan at 928-204-1135 or visit our website BwindiCommunityProgram.org. We have reached about 30% of the goal. Please consider adding to this community resource! The smiles will be huge.

Seeking Core Angels

See all wishes from Giving Angels

Description

The Giving Angels is seeking new members to add to the core group of volunteers. These are the individuals that assist in setting up the volunteer schedules, lead or assist the scheduling for drop off times and locations for the gift deliveries, assist in shopping for gifts and setting up the floor space for assembling the bags, social media postings, etc. There is a small core group now, but a few more people would make the work that needs to get done easier and even more fun. And this is something where you’re giving a little bit of your time for a short 2 to 3 month period out of the year.

Every year, it is such a rewarding feeling being able to help our low-income seniors. One of our Angels shared a memory:

“I remember delivering to a housing area in Cottowood a couple of years ago and an elderly gentleman came to the door with his coat, hat and gloves on. I apologized that we had caught him getting ready to go out but he responded, “oh not at all, I keep the heating way down to save on my utility bill”.”

Many of us don’t even think about having to regulate our lives like that. Unfortunately, many of our recipients do.

If you want to learn how you can help, please contact us.

Books for the New E-Library

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

nopic

Description

The new E-Library on the secondary school campus in rural Uganda is almost open. Just a bit more cleanup! We appreciate all those who helped make this possible. To complete the facility, we are raising funds for much needed textbooks and research books. The rural students cannot afford to purchase books for their courses. They use the shared texts in classrooms but must leave them behind when the class is over. In this new study space for 64 students, it will be wonderful to have appropriate texts available for them to use. The cost for books ranges from $10 to $150 each. You can provide a gift to this E-Library that will bolster education half-way around the globe. Go to BwindiCommunityProgram.org or call Jan Tanis at 928-204-1135 to donate. The smiles in Uganda will be radiating all the way to Sedona!

Books for the new e-Library

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

Description

The new e-Library will open in November. Rural SW Uganda is celebrating the arrival of reliable internet and a library facility ready to serve the community. The secondary campus will move its limited supply of books from its original library to the new facility, but the list of books needed to serve this larger capacity is long. The need is great and any contribution would help; from $10 for novels needed for English Literature courses, to $150 for Advanced Science Reference books. Most students cannot afford to purchase textbooks and this facility will allow them time to study after class! Donate on BwindiCommunityProgram.org (the Other Donations page) or call Jan Tanis for help in donating at 204-1135.
