The mission of the organization is twofold. They would like every girl to have one new dress. The label on the front of each identifies the girl is being cared for in the hope that will reduce human trafficking. Founded by Rachel Eggum Cinader, in just over 10 years the organization has delivered more than 2,000,000 dresses to girls in 80 third world and other impoverished locations!
Volunteers and fabric are needed. People with access to a sewing machine are needed to stitch simple sundresses. One yard of cotton or cotton-blend will make most sizes. You can use your own fabric or use materials the Chapter has on hand. Pattern and instructions can be downloaded from the Internet or emailed to you. How-to-sew training can be provided. Creativity is celebrated, but not required.

Since July 15, 2019 the local leader is Lin Ennis who has personally sewn 100 dresses. Fifty-six of those have already been shipped overseas through the Phoenix chapter. All monies received locally have been used for supplies to build the Sedona Chapter (there are AZ chapters in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tucson).

Anyone can go to the website to retrieve measurements and guidelines for the dresses. Dresses may be handed back to the organization to distribute or distribution can be delegated to anyone with the capabilities, so long as the number distributed with the DAG label is sent to the home office.

Dress a Girl is a part of Hope 4 Women, a 501(c)3 organization.

Stackable storage

nopic

Description

We need stackable storage containers for hauling supplies to our monthly 'playshop,' such as Rubbermaid 36-48 liters or more, or clear under the bed. Also fabric cutting mat, flat pressing mat, dressmaker shears, etc., so that we can keep all traveling supplies packed rather than restoring a personal sewing room and then packing it up monthly

Cotton or Blended Fabric

nopic

Description

Volunteers have been making dresses, cutting fabric and assembling "kits" for volunteers to turn into dresses. Guess what? We're almost out of fabric! Needed 100% cotton, or cotton-polyester blend fabric. One yard makes a dress. One-quarter of a yard makes pockets for one or two dresses! (White backgrounds do not make modest dresses, but will make serviceable pockets.)

Cotton or Cotton-Blend Fabric Needed

nopic

Description

Fat quarters make lovely pockets or ruffles and are perfect in a solid color. Prints are also fun. A yard of cotton or cotton-blend fabric, solid, print, plaid or checked (no white backgrounds, please) will make a sundress that will be cherished by a child who never had a new dress before.

Our volunteers have been so busy making complete kits for people to assemble that we are completely out of fabric!
